Yes, the transom bar is a bit heavy (about 950 grams). Greg covered a lot of
the issue but there is more to the story.
When you let others use your boat you need to tell them that you'll break
both of their legs if they stand astride the tiller while hoisting the kite.
You never ever, ever do this on a skiff but if they ignore you they'll fall on
their 180 lb. ass when the kite pops and land on your tiller (if the boat
hasn't already capsized). The transom bar is designed to take the load and
break your tiller instead. (it was not on USA 001 and the bar cracked). This
way you'll have the broken tiller to hit them up along side of the head with.
