Bob and Ron and everyone,
Roger and I are in the middle of deciding which regattas to attend in our
area and will determine that info early this week. Jericho will happen either
on May 21 for a boat show / regatta or we will do the Jericho classic. Bob,
will you be sailing in the Classic?
We will add a regatta schedule on the website this week and would like to
know about and post regattas around the country that other Swift Solo sailors
plan to attend. Among the events will be Huntington Lake in early July for at
least a week and then the Gorge in late July for racing with the 49ers,
video filming (hope to get our class technique video shot) and a photo shoot
for
advertising.
Huntington Lake is my favorite place to sail (it's near Yosemite). It's a
beautiful place for family in the High Sierra at 7000 feet with warm water, a
great beach and guaranteed medium breezes and flat water (almost always 8 to
12, last year was an exception because it was up a bit closer to 10-20).
There are campsites and cabins, a great restaurant, and general store within a
hundred yards of the boat storage and launching area. The date of this
training and event will be timed to miss the High Sierra Regatta which is a
huge
event dominated by sailors who have little understanding of skiffs (Last year
about 50 of the slowest of these boats were within 25 yards of the rather
short
starting line during the skiff start which was 20 minutes before theirs).
The Gorge, while not nearly as wild as it's reputation, is a place to learn
heavy air technique with flat water (usually blows from 12 to 20 knots).
This will be a good venue when more of our sailors have a couple years in the
boat.
Send me your info and I'll get it on the schedule.
Best regards,
Bram
