I think it's supposed to be centered at 94 1/2" which would put the aft edge
1/2" forward of station 8 (center 1 1/2" forward). You are correct that
putting it within 1/2" of the edge is too close.
If you move them outboard very far, the line tails will drag in the water.
While I like Christian's idea, you would need to install some method of
keeping the tails out of the water. I find that even when the tail is at the
gunwale, it is still very difficult to grab from the trapeze unless I move my
feet in to the toe rail from the gunwale (I maybe need to work on
flexibility).
I've attached a picture. Installed at the correct angle, there should be no
conflict with the shrouds.
