Dave,

Good to hear you're back. Let me know when you think you'll be done and
we'll come up with some Swifts and a coach boat to get you going.

I don't think I've written a PDF for a cassette.

Basically, you can wrap your rudder with something about 3/16" thick and
some mylar on that (be sure to tape it on beyond where you will be laying up
the
cassette so you can slid the entire mess off by pulling the tape loose). I
think I used 50" by 10" pieces of s-glass, carbon, and hybrid (One each) and
wrapped them wetted out (start the carbon after a couple of wrap of the other
two so it ends up on the outside). After that, Use 2" carbon uni tape and
2" s-glass on the top and bottom. 70" of carbon and 50" of s-glass will
likely do (start them together and the carbon will again end up of the
outside.,

You'll cast spartite for the gaskets so fit is not too critical except that a
common mistake is to not extend enough packing in the rudder wrap on the
leading and trailing edge. Wrapping the glass material tends to compress the
two edges a lot so be careful to double the thickness of the plug wrap on
those edges before starting the lay-up.

You may be able to get a foam blank for the cassette from Greg and eliminate
the entire packing issue? You should order a tiller foam blank at the same
time.

The next time I build a cassette I will do a proper PDF. With your glass
skills, I doubt you'll have any trouble with the entire casette project. Have
a look at Mikes when you're at Jericho next time as it is a good one.

We had a lot of fun and some serious light air sailing at Jericho this
weekend with all of the other new single handers (never saw trapping
conditions).
You guys a fortunate to have such a nice sailing center in Vancouver.

Best regards,

Bram
