I think you'll be OK. It would be hard to put too much weight in the transom with the difference between weights. Other than look, I'm not sure why you'd want to but have at it.

Just remember that you only have room for a small percentage of the boat to be other than cedar. You can make a very sexy transom with cedar and you can save some $ as mahogany costs so much more.
