Notice how the gunwale strip is flush against the bulkhead. Having the strip at 90 degrees works well for all the stations in front of the step, except perhaps forward of station 1. From the step back to the transom, I just came back with the plane and made the strip have the correct angle after it was installed. This worked a lot better than trying to get it right before the strip was installed.
