Taping the excess tape down, so the top edge of the tape will stick tightly to the bottom edge of the gunwale. This worked out pretty well, it looks like it will roll over nicely. Note that there's a piece of 1” tape about 1/4” down from the edge of the gunwale, to stop the glass from bonding to the gunwale (don't forget to do this).
