I used to do "passes" on the hull - sand all the way along, squeegee it off, circle the dimples, repeat. But with the squeege, it's easier to just squeegee one area, mark, sand, and repeat just in that area. That way there's less moving the hose around (which is a hassle - it always wants to fall off the hull).
