I also treated the inside of the holes in the insert with unthickened epoxy. After that was done, I slid a piece of plastic on which I had punched holes in, to stop the epoxy from touching the trunk. Slide the rods into the tubes, pop the threaded inserts into the holes in the trunk insert, push it in place, and let it cure. I decided to do one end at a time - I didn't want to have to deal with four of these at once (all going off in weird angles).
