One way to make these is to first complete the cassette. Cut large holes in the
side of the cassette as per the plans and examples on the web. Tape the bottom
of the cassette and fill with about 1 inch deep epoxy 410. Invert the cassette,
tape it up and fill 1" deep with epoxy 410. Then using your rudder blade scribe
around the board on the epoxy410 end plugs. Mark a new line about 1/8th inch
outside that to allow for the packing/bladetite. Drill out the material inside
your scribed line. then using a series of rounded files and a rat tail file
remove the material to the outer line. It doesnt have to be perfect if you are
using bladetite. This will give you about a 1" bearing surface for the blades.
To pour a gasket with Bladetite, get the calibrated syringe kits from NYC
skiffs. One syringe set (50ml set in calibrated syringes, with 4:1 mix ratio
resin to catalyst) is more than enough for a rudder or CB gasket set.
Determine the part of the blade that will be adjacent to the bearing surface,
pad the blade surface with some mylar or about < 1/64th inch to leave some
little play after the blade tight gasket is set. For the bottom gasket, Insert
the blade in the cassette, pack the top to hold it in place and aligned with
the cassette. Tape the bottom edge to the blade to avoid leaks. Mix up a small
batch of blade tite in a plastic cup, just enough to fill your gap, you wont
have a lot to waste. Pour it in through the holes in the side of the cassette
and allow to set. Wobble the board to expell bubbles. When set, remove the
board, trim the bladetite with a sharp boxcutter. Repeat with the cassette
upside down for the top of the blade's gasket.

Rob,
Sorry, You're talking about spartite. Seal the bottom of the cassette and
fill about an inch through the hole in the side of the cassette for the bottom
gasket. After breaking it free, do the same with the top gasket but turn the
entire operation upside down.
