First I want to welcome you to the class. My best memories of racing are of
the time I spent in Australia and I look forward to the day when the Class
holds a world championship down there.
Yes, I saw Trevors vang system and it is interesting. We have an issue with
the inboard end of the boom because it has to be cut away for the jib
sheeting system and there is also a mainsheet block within an inch of the
inboard
end that would interfere. Our current vang system is a concentric cam
(becomes more powerful the more you pull it on) and works well when set up
right.
Since it's made of mostly carbon and s-glass it is not as heavy as it looks.
The biggest problem with our current system is that newer skiff sailors have
a tendency to fall inboard during capsizes and occasionally break the vang
arms.
None of the above causes insurmountable issues with this new system but
finding a place to put the purchase system might be tough. It would be
interesting.
