Look at the length of the tapers. For the bottom one, it took me three strips to make it - one was too short, one split along the grain when I was fitting it, and the third one turned out ok. When I inserted the top one, it was very slightly too long and didn't sit flat - but I had already glued it all up and so I just pushed it into place.
