So, if you need to know the line is perfectly vertical, add a vertical. The hull is evenly trimmed (or very close, within about 1/8"). So I placed a rod across the hull, each end equidistant from the bowpiece, and then hung a bob at the exact middle point. As long as the rod is level, the bob will be vertical. The laser line will light up the entire string if it is vertical.
