I got smart this time with the tape - I cut the pieces as an isosceles trapezoid. This way they don't stick out above the fillet (as they do on the t-soliders, I'll have to go back and remove the excess). The other thing here is that painting plain epoxy on the fillet which isn't covered with tape makes the surface a lot smoother, especially if you do this while it's still wet.
