Bram mentioned that the mast is a cone resting on a cylinder, and that the tip of the cone aligns with the wall of the cylinder. This confirms it - the tip of the mast rests above the ground, and if I flip it over, it rests on the concrete. I also did this to verify that the tape was perfectly straight (although sighting down it seems pretty good).
