This forwarded email was sent to Eldon just prior to his email to the class.
It will help shed some light on the issue.
I hope to be feeling better tomorrow and will get the final edition of the
rules out for vote ASAP.
Also, look for some info and great pictures of the Swift Solo Factory in
Frankfort, Michigan. It is a sight to behold.
Best regards,
Bram

Eldon,
Sorry for the shortened call but I'm ill and simply don't have the voice to
argue with you--especially when the argument gets circular. Apparently, I
failed to make that clear enough to you at the start of the call.
Two of the primary reasons for the interior photos prior to bonding are to
prevent "bootlegged" boats and to ensure that the bulkheads are installed
correctly. The first reason is self explanatory. The second issue was pointed
out
when we were working on the port locations at VMG skiffs. If we put the
forward ports just aft of station 6 (in the wings) we would likely do some
damage
to the structure. If we put them forward of 6 we will not be able to
photograph the area between 6 and 8.
It is OK for you to decide that we made this decision to make sure that we
collect our fees. Indeed that is a big part of the reasoning, however, if I
concede that to be the only reason then we cannot provide the protection that
the
second reason ensures. Perhaps we should require two photos. The first one
is for the sole purpose of ensuring that the boat is not bootlegged. The
second one is for the sole purpose of ensuring that the bulkheads are correct.
Eldon, for future reference, I have no interest in discussing any issue with
anybody who is determined to reduce a course of action to a single cause.
I've never had the luxury of living my life in such a simplistic manner. This
is
the same game that politicians like to play. If sailing teaches us anything
it is to weigh the relative value of a number of variables and come up with an
answer that is more correct than wrong. Seldom does it work to choose the
left side of the track simply because the tide is better there.
I think future communication between us should be via the Internet.
I do want to thank you for your compassion regarding my current short term
health issue. Be assured that I believe in reciprocity.
I suspect that I will feel well enough to finalize the rules within a day or
two. If you do not agree with anything is the rules, please feel free to
state how you would amend them and if even a few agree with you we can vote on
the
amendment. That will save a lot of unproductive debate.
Best regards,
Bram
