Bram as you know I'm a fan of Emmett's philosophy. Let the shape settle down by
itself. Allowing therefore a little jumpstart to the innovators (of the
slightly fastest design) within the already adequately tight (IMHO) sail
area/height/foot length restrictions. Bram your flat top design is probably the
fastest but it sure would be good (to leave time) to be able to improve it
marginally next season and after when there are enough identical boats to trial
subtle changes. So I am wondering what is the hurry. What do people think? With
respect to our commercial supplier, he should have no trouble making Swift
sails better and certainly more durable than the Pride 49er cutdowns. It would
help me though to know the cut down dimensions of the Pride 49er sails that
you feel are the fastest (when you are satisfied but before the NA's). I do
appreciate you freezing your *ss off for us all. :-)
How about we voluntarily decide to have mains substantially similar for the
first NA's as there won't be much time for most of us to play with it. (unless
millionaire sail bums show up in the builders list).

Appologies Emmett if I have misrepresented your sage advice on class
development that have been posted elsewhere. GR

Subject: bow profile and centerboard trunk

Anyone who has started construction and has not received the new centerboard
trunk or bow profile details (It should look like the attached pdf) should let
me know and I'll mail them to you. In both cases they are template patterns
and cannot be sent as pdf's.

We're working hard to finish the rigging manual.

We will be testing the last (hopefully) mainsail soon and that will wrap up
the testing for the recommended sails. Remember, you can still cut down 49er
sails and there's a lot of latitude in the cut of all of our sails. Hopefully,
the current frenzy of technological design advances in sails will settle down
soon. Perhaps we should discuss a timetable to tighten up our sail measurement
rules at our first general membership. I think it would be a mistake to do it
too early, however, I believe that it should be done eventually.

  Best regards,

  Bram
