Greg and everyone,
Sails: I think we are pretty much in agreement on this. Certainly, it would
be inappropriate to completely lock in the sails in the very near future.
What I was getting at was the possibility of setting a schedule at our first
annual general membership meeting. That schedule may say that the design
should
be determined and locked in say ... three years. If we did that we could
likely increase the mass purchase benefit and save money. As it is now, we
will
be making sails in suits of ten from Banks and will save a lot of money by
doing so. Imagine though how much we could save if the sails were made in lots
of
50 suits. On the other hand, the class may want to leave them more open as
they are now. I do think this needs some discussion after everybody has had
some time in the boat. We should hold our meeting and a diner on the night
prior to the final day of racing.
Higgins Lake: As for the regatta date, I appreciate the input from everyone.
Having spent my last three years of high school living in a summer resort, I
can tell you that I despised Labor Day weekend. Massive crowds of drunk
water skiers would show up somewhat pissed that summer was over. Fights and
broken glass were the order of the weekend. How about we hold a two day clinic
on
the Tuesday and Wednesday after Labor Day and run the regatta with a practice
race and measurement on Thursday with the regatta Friday, Saturday and Sunday?
Otherwise, we may want to look at the end of September.
Email subscribers: I have a request for our mailing list subscribers. You
need to respond to "all" if you want your response to go to the list server
(and
I hope that everyone will share their opinions on these subjects). Many
emails come addressed only to me in response to issues I posted on the list
server
for everyone. This list server is for all of us to discuss issues regarding
construction and Swift Solo sailing / activities. While the subjects should
remain relevant to these subjects, I feel that everyone is a being a little too
sensitive to minimizing exchange. Specific construction questions can be
addressed to me as long as you feel that I'm taking action to make the answers
clear to everyone. On issues like Higgins Lake, I would appreciate your
response to the entire class. Otherwise, decisions coming from your private
input
sometimes make me look like an autocratic Nazi bastard (as opposed to a
tyrannical dictatorial bastard).
Best regards,
Bram
