Some of your questions can be answered by looking at page 95.  You can  see 
that a plate was made up of hybrid (about 1/8") for backing.  The three  bolts 
shown were located by using the chain plate as a guild (we use three  holes in 
it).  The bolt length will be determined while you're fitting the  deck.  The 
three holes should be first drilled in the backing blocking  using the chain 
plate as a guide.  After installing the block between  station 7 and 8, drill 
the holes on through the hull.  After you've  completed fitting the deck 
(before bonding it), drill the holes up from the  bottom through the deck.
