Hi Bram could you please post this note onto gatzooks.I think you
people are missing the point, the Swift is a clear coated fiberglass
sheathed CEDAR cored skiff. It is a sailboat that CAN be raced, but,
should be used to sail fast single handed whilst being envied by the
rest of the world. Not everybody needs to race to enjoy sailing, myself
included.I think you are doing the class a disservice by focusing to
much on the racing aspect of the Swift. I have spent the last 3 years
learning to sail the Swift and now, I am able to roar around English
Bay {Vancouver] and I am still screaming[with pleasure] and having a
fantastic time riding the wind, let me tell you there is no other
single handed boat passing me.So you folks who have not had too much
sailing experience, d,ont worry, what ever money and time you spend
building or buying a Swift and learning to sail her will be the best
investment to your ongoing health ,happiness and the pursuit of
life.Yes there will always be someone faster than you, but who really
cares. As to the question regarding plastic boats ,buy one but it will
not be a Swift Solo. I think I can safely say that the people who own
or will own a Swift are people who love the beauty of wood. So to any
of you folks who dont want a WOOD boat go find another sandbox to play
in. Regarding upkeep of a Swift I havent touched mine except a little
varnish on some minor scratches caused by me stepping on board from the
beach and my boat has been used hard by me for 3 seasons plus the
time spent by Bram testing and developing the boat.If you want to see
how the elements deal with plastic boats then come on down to Jericho
and i,ll show you quite a few that have been completely ruined by lack
of care by there owners, which is not the way of a Swifter[lack of care]
If you would like further discussion on the fun of sailing for sailing
sake on a Swift contact me and we can talk and remember I have more
time sailing the Swift than anyone excluding Bram Lets have a regatta
where the last boat wins.[Longer time out on the water aye] I think
the idea of building hulls for people to then complete themselves is a
great idea. What about it Roger?Lets get those Swifts out
there.Question? What is the percentage of sailors who race to those who
just love to sail .Hmmmmmm/ Hey Bram thanks again for bringing the
Swift Solo to life Regards Mike Jocelyn CAN 001 P.S. So i.m 63 who
cares M
