Burt would you care to respond to this?
To Warren,
Would you check to see that the unsubscribe feature is working correctly
(sorry about that Burt)?
I think the message in this is that we do need to make sure that people can
both subscribe and unsubscribe easily. Burt likely subscribed originally to
look in on our class activities and possibly to witness first-hand the level
of class support for builders and builder questions. I get far more
compliments than complaints about our mailing list from prospective members.
Thanks for all of your effort over the last several years.
To the class,
The mailing list was devised as a method of rapid class
communication--primarily for builders
It remains the only practical way that I know of to get quick response to
construction questions (1 hour service--more often than not). I would
doubt that many prospective members sign on to our mailing list hoping to
avoid getting email regarding construction questions.
I can understand Burt's frustration if he is having trouble un subscribing
now that he has decided to postpone building a Swift.
I certainly hope that we do not get to the point where we expect builders in
need of quick answers to use the forum on our website instead of the mailing
list. The time delay would likely be very discouraging. Recently, too
often these questions are asked and answered by email privately when the
answer would benefit the archives and the majority of builders under
construction. I do hope that the class website forum will be used more
often to ask questions by those who are not in need of a quick answer,
however, the level of class communication in general has been pathetically
low since the last effort to stifle use of the mailing list in favor of the
class website.

Greg,
I appreciate it. I was just on the overload side of things with the email.
At some point I hope to build a Swift.

Sure Burt we will remove you, sorry you have been bothered, but we would
rather hope you can stay or at least come back soon. One of the most
important reasons we have been working so hard on the class web site
forum,
(thanks for your excellent work Al and Warren) and encouraging our
members
to USE IT for the last few months, is so that we do not have to fill the
mailboxes of all our mail list respondents and potential new members, with
rather banal posts that are better delivered via a well organized forum.
We
all know what posts these are and that they are seriously limiting the
enrolment of the mailserver, which in itself is a very important tool for
the class if we can maintain and grow its enrolment. It may take a while
for some to remember we do have a forum now which is appropriate for that
kind of post. We do plan, however, to have a quarterly newsletter mailed
from the server, so we hope you stay at least for that Burt. Lets hope
that
the addition of picture upload and other functionality to the forum (for
members) obviates the need to stuff our emails into your mailbox and
removes
the last objection, for some, to using the class web forum.
Thanks for your email.
And as a general reminder to the class, I think it's clear what kind of
resource we are trying to build here at swiftsolo.org and if you are
intending to communicate with class members rather than the whole world,
please use the forum rather than the mailserver. RSS feeds for WebPages
and
for forum topics or individual thread items have been provided so that you
can monitor threads that interest you or updates of the site can be
delivered automatically to your email box or browser on whatever schedule
you choose, immediately if you are a junkie, in a standard flexible
manner.
Nuggets of important information posted in the forum will be added to the
knowledgebase in a timely manner (useless, expired and or inappropriate
information will be pruned by the moderators) and this will help to keep
the
information you provide and the official class communications available in
a
clear and easily accessible manner. Later the knowledgebase will be
upgraded
with a wiki engine to enhance its functionality and ease of use.
Thanks for your help making the class website and forum a better resource
for members and prospective members.
Greg Ryan
Class President.

Guys, I have tried every way to Sunday to get removed from this
distribution
list. I have sent the email that is supposed to return a verification
email.
Never comes. I just cannot handle all of the emails that I receive from
the
Class. Could someone note my email address and remove me? You have a
great
boat and someday I hope to build one, but until then, my mailbox is
filling
up.
Thanks,
Burt

Some cool cat made the SwiftSolo Class Association web site better
this weekend.... And now you have the ability to upload images to the
forum. Although you will need to be a SwiftSolo Class Association
member in good standing to do it.
