Actually, doing self cut glass tape is really easy with the following
method: Cut your fiberglass about three inches wide, and cutting it on the bias (fibers oriented 45 degrees to the length is best). Put down a thin piece of polyethylene a few inches wider than the glass and lay the glass on it. Pour expoxy on the glass and spread it out some. Put another layer of poly on top and use a spreader to finish wetting out the glass. Now using a rotary cutter, trim your wetted out tape to width. Take your ready to apply tape to the boat. Peel off one layer of plastic then apply the tape. Peel off the outside plastic and you're done. I find this much easier than trying to wet out tapes in place. I got this method from the set of aircraft plans I have. www.visionaircraft.com. He has a very useful video which demonstrates many composite construction techniques. The builders web sites have much useful info as well. The plane is glass and foam but most of the methods will apply to glass and wood too. A question for Bram: Is there any reason not to make bulkheads from marine ply rather than joining strips into a sheet and cutting them from that? Also, what city in Ontario is Paul Stalker in (CAN 031). Just wondering how close to me he might be.
