That sounds about right. When you fair it in, it will look right. 25.5
inches would be subtracted from 14 feet if you were measuring from the transom
except the transom is 1/4 forward of station 14 so you need to subtract that
also. The discrepancy is because the early boats were built with the launcher
throat at 24 inches aft of zero. The rules allow a fairly wide range here but
actually the 25.5 inches is what we are having the socks made for. This
measurement is controlled by the centerline measurement of the kite which is
controlled by the height of the mast and the length of the pole. If you moved
it much
further aft the kite would not come all the way in unless you extended the
sock aft to the point that it would interfere with tacking.
