The subject of the location of the block and cleat on the boom has come up
several times. I've been asked about locating this block further aft. DON"T.
If you think about it, the location of this block determines the purchase of
the mainsheet--but not the jib sheet. If the block were located all the way
forward, you can see that the mainsheet would have a 1 to 1 purchase system.
If the block were on the outer end of the boom it would have a 2 to 1
purchase. As the block location approaches either of these extremes it also
approaches the related purchase--all without changing the jib's purchase.
It's a
sure way to screw up this complex system.
The best thing to do is to avoid messing with any of the variables that
affect the sheeting system--at least until you've had the opportunity to see
how
it is supposed to work.
