In cross section, a couple inches back from the stem, running parallel with the stem, the bow is shaped like a champagne glass. The stem flares out like a flute at the top. If you take the angle off the bow profile, you will pick up the right length. The knuckle is where the two pieces of the bottom join. By measuring forward to the right length and double checking with the angle off the keel strake you will come in ok. I only have scanned a couple shots of my boat, but you can see where the keel strakes meet. I'm doing my whole boat bright which is why there are accent pieces on the bottom. Tonight, I'll scan shots of the lofting, the bow cut and the rough piece for the stem. I'm placing the stem this week, so I'll take some shots as it goes in.

Look at the shots of the boat on the web site and the shape of the bow in the shots showing the forward point of the bow sprit. Notice how blunt the tip of the bow section becomes.

More later.

ok. I think I am getting the picture now. So first of all you
should make sure it is really too long. Have you measured with the bow template (lined up at the correct station) that it is too long?
If so, how much too long is it? If its really too long, maybe you can extend the bow peice to be larger. You would cut away the interlocking strips and have the bow peice start earlier.

Yes -- I'm thinking of the strips below the bow piece (between the bow
piece and the waterline). My bow piece is about 10" high, and the
strips are maybe 15" (I'm not in front of the boat at the moment).
So
the additional 5" of strips need some re-fitting before I cut off the
remainder and attach the bow piece.

I didn't shape the bow when I stripped the hull or flares, and so my
bow is a bit too long.

Hi Warren,

You are suppose to cut it off, and attach the bow piece. So you
interlocking of strips will stop where the bow piece starts. Hence
it will not interlock all the way up to the deck. The boat will end
up with a flat triangular peice in front. (foremost part of the bow
peice) Hope that helps. I can take some pictures of mine, but I
already have the black trim on it, so you wont see the transition
from strips to bow peice.
