Dave,
The Contender sails off a PY number of 994 whereas Bram expects the
swift to have a PY number of around 850. Therefore the swift will be a
lot faster which is unsurprising given the two extra sails! Also the
swift is a "proper" skiff with a hull shape designed to promote early
planing. The contender hull shape looks a little like an overgrown laser
and whilst it certainly does plane and plane well, it takes a little
more breeze to get there.
Also as with most cat rigged boats performance isn't electrifying
downwind - whereas the swift certainly should be!
That said it is a great boat to sail and I think a perfect trainer for
trapeze helming as it is fairly stable, easy enough to right and
available cheaply (at least here). I'm sure there is a Canadian class
association webpage, get yourself a cheap boat from there and get
practicing for your Swift!
Cheers,
Andy Howlett.

Subject: Contender vs. Swift-Solo
Finally downloaded the Contender video. Wow, that is inspirational.
Which leads to an obvious question; how does the performance of the
Contender compare to the Swift-Solo?
My progress has been stalled for a number of reasons. Seeing videos like
the Contender video helps me continue.
