Bram, it's hard to read this e-mail but I have sensed how conflicted you have
been about this this year. I'm glad for you that you have reached a decision
that can allow you to go forward and get past the frustration you have felt.
I would very much appreciate your coaching time and would like to work with you
to allow the most people to participate possible. I still haven't heard back
from the CGRA and am reluctant to go to the trouble to go down there if the
beach is going to be full and we end up in the parking lot. Perhaps a
different weekend would work, or perhaps we could do a weekend day in Seattle
this summer. The last weekend in July would work for me if I don't go to the
Gorge. Perhaps we could talk Ron R into staying in Seattle that weekend as
well. What do you think?

You are the one who encouraged me to try trapeze sailing in my late 50's. I
am forever grateful to you for that, as it has given me great joy and
satisfaction to work my way up the learning curve. It has renewed my love of
sailing in a way that nothing else could. Thank you for sharing your dream
with the rest of us.

Chris

Â

Just an update to bring everyone up to speed.

Â

First, Iâve finally fixed my computer problemsâboth email and web
hosting. While Iâve chan
ged to Comcast I will maintain my old email address, at least in the near
term. I apologize for the downtime and would ask anyone whoâs email was
dropped (not responded to) to resend it. I will get the website updated
within a few days as well.

Â

This downtime has given me some time to work on health issues and to figure out
where my future is with sailing and our class. Heart problems are an ongoing
issue so Iâve been working hard to get in good physical condition.Â=2 0That
has worked pretty well but has not solved the more debilitating issue with
arthritis in my hands. The high sheet loads associated with skiff sailing
take a toll on arthritic hands and age makes it progressively worse.

Â

It has not been easy to come to grips with reality and where I go from here.
Every other element of my life is going far better than I or anyone has the
right to expect. ÂI never dreamed that Iâd be sailing high performance boats
well into my 60âs when I was young. Still, my passion for skiff sailing has
outlived my joints. Short of a major turnaround, today will be my last day.

Â

The good news is that Iâve come to realize that I can now focus on the two
elements of our class that are very important to me. The first is helping the
class clean up a lot of loose ends that relate to sustainability. I will be
looking for input from all of you in this regard. The second
element is to coach sailor / athletes to take the Swift to the next level. ÂI
feel that none of us have had the kind of coaching and rescue support that
would allow us to push the limits. Iâd like to set up a session or two each
year in the Gorge for those who want to do some advanced training camp with
close coaching / video, and rescue support. I will also provide coaching and
clinic support for our newcomers at annual Championships where practical.

Â

Thanks to all of you for helping me lay the foundation for our class. Iâve
made many great friends and I look forward to seeing all of you at our North
American Championships next summer.

Â

Best regards,

Â

Bram
