In Canoecraft (Firefly Books, 2000) by Ted Moores, he describes building stapleless canoes. It's a bit slower than with stapled because of the fewer number of strips each session. I used similar techniques on my solo where the strips were really stressed instead of the screws suggested.
To help hold the strips, I ripped some blocks with a notch to fit the planks and an over sized hole for a drywall screw away from the plank. In most cases, the bead was held well by the previous cove and the blocks took care of the new edge. In a couple places, I added wedges to hold the whole plank in place.

The hull or deck is then cut off of the forms from below with a razor blade, once the s-glass has been installed. This technique was used in building USA020. Alternatively, the builder in Belgium claims to have built his Swift-Solo without using any staples or screws to hold the strips in place. I would be interested in learning more about the technique.

and the staples come out. Another way it to staple through plastic
strapping tape (you need an air stapler to be sure you have enough
