Very important point Roger, dont step or lean on it either :-)
Maybe you could mark your CB with a texta line indicating the max up before
hitting the Vang. I wonder if some of the front top corner of the blade could
be lopped off to get a higher pull.
McMaster Carr sell a short stainless spring pull pin with a 1/4 inch diameter
nose that can be used as a locating pin for the movable collar, that way it can
be changed on the water if need be. I dont have any pictures right now but the
vang collar I built for Rob DeMarais has a HMWPE key that it slides on, which
stops it rotating (as it wants to do on the water), so that the spring pin
goes "click" right in the hole every time, even under duress. Rob might be
able to post a picture.

I will leave it to Bram to give measurements, but the best thing I did was to
make the new adjustable sleeve on the mast, then you have 'n' degrees of
freedom to adjust the height and angle of the lever. The arm is in pure
tension/ compression, unless it is smacked sideways on a half raised
centreboard through an unintentional tack or jibe. Then it breaks :)

Bram,
I have fabricated the basic pieces for the vang following the 05/28/04
Rigging Manual. I recall that you sent an email to everyone in June '04 saying
that there were some changes in the measurements per VMG. Please let me know
if the plans in the Rigging Manual PDF posted on the Swift-Solo Web site are
the correct measurements, before I drill holes in the wrong places.
Do you still have the drilling templates for the mast hardware available?
Also, the sides of my vang arm are currently 1.5" wide (see below) as I
used a 2x6 to make the mandrel. What width do you recommend? Thanks.
