Cameron,
The methods described in Bram's manual work well, as they are tried and 
tested.  Keep things easy on yourself and follow them.  That does not mean that 
you 
can't innovate, but be sure to read about other's mistakes so that you can 
learn from them.  Regarding the use of cedar cove and bead strips, they are 
used 
because of the complex shapes in the hull and deck.  When you get your forms 
cut out and assembled, you will wonder how it's possible to bend the wood to 
follow it's shape.  That is where the strips come into play.  Warren Steven's 
blog and the Catzooks.com list server are great sources for inspiration and 
information for all things Swift Solo.  Have fun.
