Guys just a heads up on a tiny change I have made to my boat.

As we launch our boat quite regularly off waves and then drop about 10'
before hitting the water again in this part of the world, the mast step can
take quite a pounding. And after a long discussion with my sailmaker, we
figured a soft wood - cedar, under the mast step was at real risk of being
crushed. So I have routed it out and substituted some Jarrah - an Australian
hardwood for the deck part and bonded it to the mast step and dagger board
structure inside the hull.

Should be a whole lot stronger

Cameron,
The methods described in Bram's manual work well, as they are tried and
tested. Keep things easy on yourself and follow them. That does not mean
that you can't innovate, but be sure to read about other's mistakes so that
you can learn from them. Regarding the use of cedar cove and bead strips,
they are used because of the complex shapes in the hull and deck. When you
get your forms cut out and assembled, you will wonder how it's possible to
bend the wood to follow it's shape. That is where the strips come into
play. Warren Steven's blog and the Catzooks.com list server are great
sources for inspiration and information for all things Swift Solo. Have
fun.
