Has anyone tried rubbing sex wax anywhere a foot is likely to be that
does not have non skid? I know some of the 505 crews that walk the
full rail swear by the stuff.

Time to relax and take a break again. The best non skid seemed to
be the black stuff that Bram has been using. Rather rough but not
sharp like sandpaper. The down side is that you can never have too
much. It seems like anywhere your foot might go, that is where the
non skid goes.
As far as mast bend. The sail and mast act more like a windsurfer
rig than a standard aluminum sailboat mast. Pulling on the
cunningham will put more mast bend than the vang and easier as
well. The sail does not stretch as much as a dacron sail but
pulling on the cunningham will move the draft forward. The batons
also help to push the mast and bend it as well.

You could always get in touch with the scientists working on this
stuff (see link). http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/

Even better perhaps there is a way to have your
feet surgically altered. That way we wouldn't need to cover
the beauty of the deck with non-skid. Al Pritchard

Mark,
Don't do it. Let someone else be the crash test dummy.
We've
tried a number of alternatives including sand and some kind of
micro spheres and each has failed. This is a very big issue and
if you get it wrong, your experience will be frustrating as
hell. Some of the alternatives will eat your wetsuit in just
a day and
others will have you skating around the boat like a
skateboard. At least initially, I'd advise you to stick with
the proven stuff. No need for footstraps on the Swift
because of the gunwale
angles. They are the leading cause of injuries on other
skiffs. We'll show you a video of what happens when you get
to Florida.
Best regards,
Bram
