The Columbia Gorge Racing Association hosts regional, national and international regattas in the Gorge. Mostly out of Cascade Locks. Check out the web site. <www.cgra.org> In the mid summer winds are typically 10-15 max with some days a little stronger and rare days much stronger. August is a strong wind month. Maybe 15-20 avg. I can did up an archive of winds if people are interested and chart it out.

There is camping at CL, reasonable hotels in CL and in Stevenson. Check out the Stevenson site for what's to do around here <www,cityofstevenson.com>.

It very rarely rains in the summer months. On the windy days, the wind builds so races could be early and late.

Last. The CGRA has held a Skiff Week the second weekend of July for at least 10 years. It's the longest running 49er event in NA. It would be natural to slot the the Solos in that event. The issue would be attendance. If there are less than 10 boats, it usually is not worth the time of the CGRA to run the race. We sort of set that as a bottom deal. This last Skiff Regatta, Paul Cayard was here with his son and in his monthly Seahorse column, he raved about how great the Gorge was for sailing and the CGRA as a group. We have a reputation for holding great regattas, good wind and good times.

If the class is interested, I could have it put on the agenda for the Oct CGRA board meeting and present it.

I guess we need a list with locations of completed boats, and boats that
will be completed by spring, to see where the majority are. The Columbia
River Gorge seems to have some wind, (drove along it 2 weeks ago). It is
quite scenic, but have no idea of camping and sailing support. Does anyone
know?

Roger and Dave,
I was disappointed that Jericho was cancelled last summer as I had

planned

to attend my first Clinic.
I am at the steepest of the learning curve to participate in a NA,
regardless where it is.
My goal is the get some Clinic time in, and enjoy the Swift with others.

Dave and others,
Even if the official regatta is somewhere else next year, I think that

it

will make good sense for us Westerners to plan a regatta at Jericho as
well.
So far there are 2 boats sailing in Vancouver, two more nearing
completion
in Vancouver, one in Calgary 90% complete, Bram has a couple, Ron has
one,
there should be a whole bunch more nearing completion in and around
Seattle,
and the West coast. We could probably get ten or twelve boats to

Jericho

next year and then anyone else who fancied a trip to Vancouver could

also

participate. Jericho is one of the most ideal sailing spots that I have
seen. Sand beaches/ Vancouver for the family. Full time rescue boat,

boat

ramps, restuarant at the clubhouse that has a deck which overlooks the
racing. If we spoke nicely to the club manager at Jericho, he may even
let
us camp there for the week.

Gentlemen,

I will be one of the people Roger eluded too. I would ask that there

be

further consideration as to who and where the new boats will be

coming

from. This is important. As Bram said; there may be a significant

number

of

people in the steep learning curve with their boats. To encourage them
to
attend their first regatta it would be wise to make the location as
close

to

the majority of these (us) newbies.

To be perfectly honest. I really don't cherish the thought of driving
all
the way to the so called Mid West just to go swimming.

Why has Seattle not been considered?

Who out there is say; 75% complete? Where do you reside?
